East Ascension senior pitcher Rachel LeCoq improved to a 13-1 record in the circle with a 2-1 win over St. Amant Thursday afternoon. She allowed one hit in the game, a home run in the seventh inning.

ST. AMANT – The two teams at the top of District 6-5A clashed Thursday afternoon, with second-place East Ascension leaping over league leaders St. Amant, 2-1.

Senior Rachel LeCoq had been working on a no-hitter in the seventh inning, until St. Amant’s Melanie Parker hit a home run to left field.

With one out needed in the inning, East Ascension (24-2, 7-1) thwarted any hopes of a St. Amant (21-4, 7-1) rally as the Gators had the tying and winning runs on base. Spartans freshman shortstop Brooke Delaune charged a short hopper off the bat of St. Amant’s Falynn Rouyea and threw her out to end the game.

The last time the two teams met was March 16 when the Gators gave the Spartans their only district loss in a 2-1 decision.

Aime Parent (20-4) took the loss for the Gators, as East Ascension scored a pair of unearned runs in the third inning. Parent allowed seven hits and a walk.

In the third, East Ascension freshman shortstop Brooke Delaune reached on an error, then moved to second on Bailey Landry’s sacrifice bunt. Kacie Palmer hit a single to right to drive in the first run. The second came around when Brooke Courville scored from third base on a fielding error.
