Staff reports

The United States Coast Guard reported Thursday morning that a tug boat hit the Sunshine Bridge, according to an Ascension Parish spokesperson.

The incident involving the boat, named Natalie Alexander, was reported at about 3 a.m., spokesperson Scott Rabalais said.

No damage to the bridge was reported, and the Department of Transportation was notified, he said.

The boat had damage 35 feet by three feet inward and three feet long. The craft is not taking on water. No hazardous spills were reported.

The cause was misjudgment and wind, according to Rabalais.
