The Lamar-Dixon Expo Center main arena was renamed Friday during the LSU AgCenter State Livestock show in honor of a deceased parish resident who was actively involved in youth livestock activities including the livestock show.

The arena was named for Robbie Savoy Jr. an employee at Lamar-Dixon since its inception, who died on a fishing outing in 2009. The Parish Council voted unanimously by resolution on Jan. 21 to name the arena for Savoy.

Parish officials and dozens of family members were on hand Feb. 19, as the parish formally dedicated the arena.

The ceremony included a resolution making Feb. 19 Robbie G. Savoy, Jr. Day in Ascension Parish and was capped by the unveiling of a sign at the east end of the arena naming it Robbie G. Savoy, Jr. Arena.

Among those family members in attendance were Robbie’s widow, Jamie, his parents Judy and Robbie Savoy, Sr.

Also present at the dedication were Parish President Tommy Martinez, Parish Council Chairman Pat Bell, parish councilmen Randy Clouatre, Benny Johnson and Kent Schexnaydre, parish Chief Administrative Officer Cedric Grant and Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux.
