Gators, Griffins tie in opener
ST. AMANT - Dutchtown and St. Amant each scored one run in the first inning and settled for a 1-1 tie in the opening game of the St. Amant Jamboree Saturday morning at Gator Park.
Jacob Williams led off with a double to left off St. Amant starter Dylan Delaune and scored on Troy Lewis’ single after Britt Gautreaux drew a walk. Another run was squandered on Jesse Buratt’s grounder before Delaune struckout Eric Babin to end the inning after popping up Matt Willis.
Task Plauche reached on a hard liner not cleanly fielded at second before Lee Elisar’s liner to center off Williams put runners on the corners.
Dillon?Morin’s grounder to third plated a run to knot it up 1-1 before Williams struckout Kenny Wilkins and Tyler Guillory to end the inning after Kahn Petite lined through the right infield.
Derrick?Savoy walked Jacob Waguespack to open the second inning before retiring the next three batters in order.
Court Schwing retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom half before Jacob Templet lined over short but he was caught stealing by catcher Steven Bright to Williams at second base.
Gautreaux lined over second to open the third inning off Dillon Savoy before Buratt drew a walk but Savoy struckout Willis and popped up Babin to get out of the inning.
Garrette Rayburn retired the first two batters he faced in the bottom half striking out Elisar before walking Morin but Bright threw out pinch running Bryant Bourgeois to shortstop Lewis ending the game.
Thibodaux scored three runs in the second inning to prevail in the second game.
Gautreaux and Buratt each drew walks off starter Byron Landry in the first inning but were left stranded. Brandon Thibodeaux beat out a grounder to short off Gautreaux to open the bottom half but also was left stranded.
Landry struckout David Lentz and Leon?Blouin to open the second before Babin reached on a bobbled grounder and Brandon Ballard drew a walk but they were left stranded.
Trent Granier beat out a grounder to open the bottom half before Chris Boutwell walked Matt Labat and Justin?Zerinque lined to shallow left to load the bases.
Grant Trosclair lined through the right infield to plate a run before Blane Oncale lined through the center of the infield to cross two more. Boutwell then struckout Brandon and Chaz Thibodeaux before forcing a fly to end the inning.
Labat retired the Griffins in order in the third inning before Lewis fielded Zerinque’s liner back to the mound to end the game after striking out Labat in the bottom half.
