11 selected to Academic All-State volleyball teams

BATON?ROUGE?– East Ascension’s Jyra Churchill and Ascension Christian’s Megan Pellegrin headline the list of 11 Ascension Parish student-athletes selected to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Academic All-State Volleyball team recently.
Churchill was selected to the Division I Academic All-State Volleyball team with a 3.9790 GPA, while Pellegrin was named to the Division V team with a 3.8571 GPA.
Selected Division I Academic All-State honorable mention were East Ascension’s Caitlin Roddy, Dutchtown’s Justine Tureau, East Ascension’s Kristen Watts, St.?Amant’s Lauren Delaune and St. Amant’s Peyton Vincent.
Roddy has achieved a 3.7920 GPA in her high school career while Tureau has compiled a 3.5313 GPA, Watts carries a 3.4710, Delaune has a 3.2653 and Vincent a 3.2600.
Named Division V Academic All-State honorable mention were Ascension Catholic’s Emile Russo, Ascension Christian’s Krystal Braud, Ascension?Catholic’s Anna LaGrange and Ascension Catholic’s Victoria Longnecker.
Russo carries a 3.666 GPA, while Braud has achieved a 3.5854 GPA and LaGrange and Longnecker have both compiled a 3.2142 GPA.
In order to be selected to the Academic All-State team, the nominee must be a senior student with a three-year accumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and must have been selected for at least one All-District honor.
Additionally, each member school principal is afforded the opportunity of nominating at least two academically deserving individuals who did not receive All-District honors.
