Lady Spartans dismantle Parkview Baptist in final tuneup before playoffs
East Ascension knocked off any rust remaining following a two-game losing streak with a through dismantling of Parkview Baptist 10-0 Monday night at Spartan Stadium in their non-district final tuneup before the Division I playoffs begin.
Marissa Sanchez led East Ascension (15-8-1) with two goals, while Jordan Guedry, Rebecca Austin, Ally Miller, Kristen Simoneaux, Haley Gautreau, Janel Boylan, Alondra Mendoza and Jennifer Cornes each provided one goal.
K. Favorite had two saves for the Lady Spartans, while Chelsea Griggs had one.
K. Rabalais provided 14 saves for Parkview Baptist (2-8).
Gautreau converted off the left post from?Boylan’s corner kick with 12:25 left to play in the first half to put East Ascension ahead 3-0.
The Lady Spartans took seven more shots on goal before halftime but couldn’t convert.
Simoneaux’s cross shot was off the side bar after Austin was wide right to open the second half. Sanchez’s attempt after stealing a goal kick was then gathered by Rabalais.
Sanchez’s turnaround less than five minutes into the second half began an onslaught that continued for the next 15 minutes.
Sanchez fed Simoneaux less than three minutes later before Austin fed Sanchez for her second goal with 31:05 left to play.
Austin then converted off a rebound of Simoneaux’s corner kick after it was headed out two minutes later to put East Ascension ahead 7-0.
After Austin’s breakaway was wide left, Boylan curved a corner kick into the goal to make it 8-0 with 24:51 left to play in the contest.
Jazmine Armandariz then fed Austin who went through Rabalais just over a minute later.
Mendoza’s roller reflected the final tally shortly after.
Guedry and Cornes provided the first two goals of the evening for East Ascension before Miller’s attempts were gathered by Rabalais and wide right.
