Area soccer teams open playoffs at home

As playoff brackets were released by the Louisiana High School Athletic Association this week, both Dutchtown and East Ascension boys and girls’ squads learned they would host bi-district matches in the second year of seedings.

All six teams from the parish advanced to the postseason with both of St. Amant’s squads traveling on the road in first-round action.

The Lady Griffins enter the playoffs for the third consecutive season having swept through District 6-I play and remain undefeated overall.

Seeded second, Dutchtown, which advanced to the quarterfinals last year, will host No. 31 seed Bonnabel Friday night at 6 p.m. at Griffin Field. The winner will play the victor of 15th seeded Chapelle and No. 18 Terrebonne.

Dutchtown also garnered the No. 4 seed in the boys’ bracket and will host 29th seeded Thibodaux at 3 p.m. Saturday after going through District 6-I play undefeated following a run to the quarterfinals last season. The victor will play the winner of No. 13 St. Thomas More and 20th seeded Sulphur in the regionals.

East Ascension, the District 6-I runner-up, enters the postseason as the ninth seed after advancing to the regionals last season and will host No. 24 Carencro. The winner will advance to face the victor of No. 8 Fontainebleau and 25th seed Grace King.

The Lady Spartans return to the postseason as the No. 16 seed and will host 17th seeded St. Joseph’s Friday nigh at 6:30 p.m. at Spartan Stadium. The winner advances to face the victor of top seed Fontainebleau and No. 32 Chalmette in the regionals.

St. Amant will travel to No. 15 Northshore as the 18th seed and the winner will face the victor of second seeded Captain Shreve and No. 31 Ouachita Parish.

The Lady Gators enter the postseason as the No. 22 seed and will travel to Shreveport to face 11th seeded Caddo Magnet at Independence Stadium Friday night at 6:30 p.m. The winner will face the victor of No. 6 Mount Carmel and No. 27 Zachary.
