Dutchtown’s early goals set tempo over Lady Spartans
It took Dutchtown less than three minutes to score Tuesday night in a District 6-I battle with East Ascension at Spartan Stadium.
The Lady Griffins (18-0-3, 7-0) added three goals in the second half on way to a 5-2 victory that kept them perfect in district play and left them still undefeated overall.
“We were successful in establishing control of the game early and maintained it through the duration,” Dutchtown head coach Anant Vyas said. “Scoring early established the tempo and allowed us to be patient in creating opportunities for good shots on goal. EA covers the field well and makes opponents earn each and every goal.
“I was pleased with our performance We have been playing consistently through the season. The girls are practicing new attacking tactics and putting them to work in actual games. This will help us be more diversified as the playoffs approach.”
Chelsea Cruthirds provided a hat trick for the Lady Griffins with three goals, while Lindi Robichaux provided the other two. Taylor Kelley had two saves for Dutchtown.
East Ascension (13-6-1, 5-2) got goals from Marissa Sanchez and Caitlin Roddy while Chelsea Griggs had eight saves.
"We were pleased with the performance,”?East Ascension head coach Christopher Goodall said. “Defensively, we were strong against a superb attack and the midfield and forwards did what was required of them. We thought Chelsea Griggs had a fantastic game in goal too."
"We will need to be focussed the rest of the way. It was rewarding to know our older girls led by example What we were most pleased with as a coaching staff was our unity. That will serve us well."
Lexi Gibbs fed Cruthirds for a side shot into the back of the goal just 2:45 into the contest. Gibbs and Sanchez’s previous attempts were wide.
Dutchtown then took the next seven shots before Robichaux connected off Griggs’ deflection of Cruthirds’ attempt with 12:25 left in the first half. Griggs previously saved attempts from Cruthirds and Baige Lipoma before Gibbs appeared to score off Robichaux’s free kick off the up bar with a header but a foul was ruled.
Cruthirds added two more goals in the second half, one assisted by Megan Romaire and fed Robichaux for her second goal.
Sanchez’s goal came 15 minutes into the second half on an assist from Jordan Guedry. The Lady Spartans’ final goal came in the closing minutes when Roddy sent a penalty kick to her left side after a foul on Kayla Bourgeois.
Dutchtown looks to remain undefeated when they host St. Amant Friday night at Griffin Field. East Ascension travels to Destrehan.
