East Ascension never trailed building a 14-point lead before holding off Baker for a 68-58 non-district victory Tuesday night at EAHS’ gym.

Charlie Greer’s dish to Brown off a steal followed Madere’s before Watts fed Fleming inside. Fleming’s putback gave the Spartans a 14-10 lead going into the second quarter.

Brown’s free throws knotted it up 16-16 before Fleming’s free throws put East Ascension ahead for good during a 13-0 run that saw Watts feed Smith inside and in the right corner for a 3-pointer before Madere’s spin in transition. Grear’s lay up off a steal cut it to 29-18 at halftime after Fleming’s spin inside and Williams’ putback.

Watts fed Madere off the inbounds pass to open the second half before dishing to Fleming inside. After Williams’ putback, Smith fed Fleming before Grear’s transition bucket and Williams’ putback cut it to 35-24.

Brown’s 3-pointer from the left wing cut it to 48-42 going into the final frame after back to back 3-pointers by Wright  and Lionel LeDuff from the left wing preceded Fleming’s turnaround jumper. Watts’ floater in the lane preceded an 8-0 Baker run capped by LeDuff’s putback.

LeDuff’s jumper to open the final frame cut it to four points before Fleming fed a driving Smith and converted a putback. Grear’s drive preceded Watts’ 18-footer before Smith fed Fleming inside off an inbounds pass to make it 56-46.
