ST. AMANT?– Dutchtown scored within the first 10 minutes and cruised to a 5-0 shutout District 6-I victory over St. Amant Wednesday night at the Pit.

The Lady Griffins (16-0-3, 5-0) added three goals in the second half preventing any threat by St. Amant (5-10-2, 2-3).

“We had so many shots on the goal but the finishing didn’t occur in the first half,” Dutchtown head coach Anant Vyas said. “The tempo of the this game and the smaller field placed a lot of pressure on the ball. St. Amant put pressure on the ball the entire time but in the second half, we started making things happen.

“We possessed the game the entire time and they did not threaten. Sometimes the ball was in the box for a long time but there were so many people. They covered our top threats which made other players available. You can shut down maybe two but you can’t shut down everyone.”

Megan Romaire scored two goals for Dutchtown, while Lindi Robichaux, Emily Rezac and Chelsea Cruthirds added one a apiece.

“We knew it was going to be that type of night,” St. Amant head coach Jason Naquin said. “They are a very good team. We were not trying to play totally defensive but we knew what was coming at us. A high powered offense, so we were trying to give them something different to get around. The defense was solid but we are still young and inexperienced. We played well but they played better.

“Our gameplan was to make it come from someplace different than their big three. That is what we were really focused on. If we could make them go to Plan B. I am disappointed that we loss but I am very pleased with the performance the girls gave.”

Romaire’s lofted side shot off a drive to the back top post opened the scoring less than seven minutes into the contest. The Lady Griffins had already taken four shots with goalkeeper Samantha Jackson saving three.

Lexi Gibbs sandwiched two attempts around Robichaux’s that were all wide before Amanda Jackson’s through ball drew goalkeeper Taylor Kelley out.

Dutchtown had seven more shot attempts before Robichaux’s corner kick sailed past Samantha Jackson into the net to give the Lady Griffins a 2-0 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half. Jackson saved two earlier attempts from Robichaux.

Kelley saved Amanda Jackson’s attempt in the closing minutes before the Lady Griffins would have four more attempts on goal with Samantha Jackson saving two.

Jackson stopped Gibbs’ slow roller and side shot to open the second half before tipping Robichaux’s attempt which Rezac converted on the rebound to put Dutchtown ahead 3-0 with 29 minutes left to play.

Robichaux fed Romaire off Erica Sweeney’s throw in 15 minutes later. Destiny Bourgeois followed with a cross shot that was wide left for St. Amant.

After Jackson saved two attempts from?Cruthirds, Kelly corralled Jaci Bourgeois’ through ball.

Cruthirds reflected the final tally by taking a throw in and driving down the left sideline after hurdling someone before coming back up field and hitting the bottom left corner of the goal with under two minutes to play. Gibbs pushed a penalty kick wide left just before.
