Weather forces changes to high school schedules

Cold weather that dipped into the teens consecutive nights forced the cancellation or postponedment of the entire Friday night local high school athletics schedule.

The Ascension Parish School Board closed schools Friday and turned the water off making it impossible for athletic contests to take place.

Games scheduled for Friday that weren’t played included boys basketball games: Redemptorist at St. Amant, East Ascension at E.D. White, boys and girls basketball games: Ascension?Catholic at White Castle and Ascension Christian at East Iberville and boys and girls soccer games: Dutchtown at St. Amant and Destrehan at East Ascension.

A girls basketball game between St. Amant and Ascension Catholic was also cancelled Thursday, while the District 6-5A wrestling meet scheduled for Saturday at Dutchtown also did not take place. Donaldsonville did make up boys and girls basketball games originally scheduled for Friday with Pointe Coupee Central Saturday.

St. Amant did host a junior varsity girls basketball tournament Saturday at the Gold Dome.

Soccer games are tentatively scheduled to be made up Wednesday forcing the teams to play three games in a four-day stretch.
