South Lafourche built an eight-point halftime lead and extended it into a 48-31 victory in the first game of the second day of the Spartan Classic Monday afternoon in EAHS’ gym.

The Tarpons led by as many as 20 points twice in the fourth quarter.

St. Amant went on to defeat Lutcher 58-41 Tuesday evening after falling to Dutchtown to open the tournament.

Mileke Beasley led the Gators (3-15) with 12 points Monday, while Steve Fulkerson added 10 and Justin Manton provided seven.

Caden Cheramie led South Lafourche (7-6) with 15 points. Rusty Borne added 13 and Gregory Curole provided eight.

South Lafourche took a 13-8 lead going into the second quarter behind six points from Borne and led 23-15 at halftime courtesy of five points apiece for Borne and Cheramie despite Fulkerson’s seven in the frame.

Cheramie added six in the third quarter to give the Tarpons a 36-24 lead going into the final stanza.

Beasley’s 3-pointer from the right wing ended an 8-0 Tarpon run to open the quarter which saw Borne and Curole feed Alton Jenkins inside, the later off a steal.

Fulkerson blocked Cheramie’s lane drive on the ensuing possession but the Gators couldn’t convert.

Beasley banked a 3-pointer from the 25-feet just before the buzzer after gathering Jenkins’ blocked shot of Shane Laurent following following Borne’s penetrating dish to Curole inside.

St. Amant built a 32-19 halftime lead over Lutcher.?The Gators had previously defeated the Bulldogs 60-40 in the Gold Dome Classic last month.

Fulkerson scored a game-high 25 points, while Marlon Bourgeois added 13.

Daniel Taylor led Lutcher (3-11) with 19 points.

The Gators don’t return to the court till Jan. 8 when they host Redemptorist at the Gold Dome.
