Flood watch discontinued for Ascension

Staff reports

Ascension Parish received a breather from the heavy rains of the past week as flash flood warnings were lifted for the area Wednesday for the first time in several days.

The threat of heavy rains in the area on Thursday and Friday remains.

While one of the pumps at Marvin Braud pumping station remains offline until it is repaired later in the week, East Ascension Drainage Director Bill Roux reported today that the remaining four pumps are staying ahead of water while running at full capacity.

As a result, water levels in many areas of the parish are dropping.

The following roads in Ascension Parish remained closed Wednesday due to high water as of 11 a.m.:

• Amite River Road, Brignac

• Summerfield South Road, Summerfield

• Airport Road, Summerfield

• Paul Road Extension, Sorrento

• South Hodgeson at Clouatre, Gonzales

• St. Landry Rd., Gonzales

• Lake St, Summerfield

• Venus at Galaxy, Darrow

• Raymond Tullier Road, Sorrento
