St. Amant scores twice in late rally to tie Central Lafourche
ST. AMANT – St. Amant scored two goals within two minutes to answer Central Lafourche and force a 3-3 tie?Wednesday night at the Pit.
The Trojans built a two goal lead in a five minute span of the second half before the Gators’ goals with under 10 minutes to play.
“We have to learn when we are the better team, we have to start playing like the better team,” St. Amant head coach Adrian Garcia said. “We have to start showing up quicker in games and not wait until the second half when we get down. The officiating wasn’t the best but we have to show up and take it out of their hands early in the game and not let that happen. We should have put that team away in the first half.”
Chase Squires scored two goals for St. Amant (7-4-2), while Trett Bourgeois added one.
St. Amant had several opportunities in the final two minutes to win and even appeared to score the winning goal when Jaxson Lambert’s corner kick was headed in by Joshua Rios but officials ruled offsides.
Bourgeois’ turnaround through three defenders off Lambert’s corner kick cut it to 3-2 with eight minutes remaining.
Squires connected from Dylan Galatas two minutes later from 25 yards out to tie it on a shot that the goalkeeper tapped and missed.
“We played hard but they kept up the intensity,” Central Lafourche head coach Simon Badeaux said. “We kind of got a little flat and complacent at the end with the lead but we fought. They are a real good team and kept pushing and pushing and eventually prevailed.”
Neither team scored in the first half. Central Lafourche (5-3-3) cracked the scoreboard first before Squires’ first goal knotted it up.
Brandon Fusea put the Trojans ahead 2-1 off Austin?Naquin’s free kick with 16 minutes remaining.
Naquin nailed a free kick into the left corner of the goal from 30 yards away five minutes later to make it 3-1.
