St. Amant’s Kaylan Acy gathers a rebound over Redemptorist’s Broute` Tate and Colleen Madere in the first quarter of the Lady Wolves’ 30-26 victory in the championship game of the Red Stick Sports Tip Off Classic Wednesday night at Christian Life Academy’s Gym.

BATON?ROUGE?– St. Amant rallied from an 11-point deficit to cut it three points in the closing minutes but couldn’t overcome a poor shooting performance falling to Redemptorist 30-26 in the championship game of the Red Stick Sports Tip Off Classic Wednesday night at Christian Life Academy’s Gym.

Bria Turner’s pull up jumper off a steal cut it to 27-24 but Redemptorist hit three free throws down the stretch to seal it despite Turner’s putback just before the buzzer.

“This was one of the most athletic teams we have faced so far and I think the pressure got to us but I think we are stepping up and playing better basketball,” St.?Amant head coach Kristy Englade said. “We are either winning close games are losing close games. It is going to take some time.

“We couldn’t buy a shot at all tonight and I?think that got us a little bit mentally.”

St. Amant defeated Parkview Baptist, West Feliciana and French Settlement to advance the final and were undefeated this season heading into the contest.

Turner led the Lady Gators (5-1) with 14 points, while Kaitlin McClure added five, Haley Jara had four and Elena Villar provided three.

Lanie Roussell led Redemptorist with 10 points, and Collen Malone and Hayley Neldare each added eight.

St. Amant took the early lead on McClure’s 19-footer from the left wing. McClure’s free throw knotted it up 5-5 going into the second quarter after Roussell’s drive.

Turner’s free throws with 49 seconds left in the half ended a 10-0 Lady Wolves run to cut it to 15-7 at halftime. Malone’s jumper started the run.

Neldare’s 3-pointer from the left wing made it 21-10 in the second half after her dish to Roussell in transition preceded Villar’s jumper. Kandace Boudreaux’s inbounds pass to Turner for a 3-pointer cut it to seven going into the final frame.

Neldare fed Roussell in transition to open the fourth quarter before Turner’s 19-footer from the left wing off a steal. Jara’s free throws and jumper near the charity stripe made it 27-22 with 2:03 left to play.
