Volunteers collect and sort old televisions and electronic equipment on Saturday, Nov. 21 during the TV/Electronics Collection day at the Ascension Civic Center in Sorrento.

Ascension Parish residents turned out in big numbers Saturday, Nov. 21 to dispose of their old televisions and electronics at the parish’s TV/Electronics Collection Day.

A total of 178 vehicles were processed through the Ascension Civic Center in Sorrento. All told, they disposed of:

• 162 televisions (14,000 pounds total)

• 132 computer monitors

• 92 computer

• 44 printers

• 8 flat screen monitors

• 8 laptops

• 38 miscellaneous/broken items (10,254 pounds total, non-television items)

“We were very pleased with the response, especially since the weather was poor,” said Terance Irvin, Ascension Parish recycling coordinator. “We had a steady flow of vehicles coming through, but it wasn’t so much that it overwhelmed our volunteers. We appreciate all the work they helped us do on Saturday.”

TV/Electronics Collection Day was sponsored by Ascension Parish Government, the municipalities of Gonzales, Donaldsonville and Sorrento, Keep Ascension Beautiful and the Ascension Parish School Board.

The next recycling event in Ascension Parish will be the regular monthly Recycling Road Show, Saturday, Dec. 5 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Prairieville.
