Martin elected to Sorrento Council

Staff reports

Democrat Marvin L. Martin was elected to the Sorrento Town Council Saturday, receiving 160 votes, according to unofficial results from the Secretary of State.

Martin defeated Democrat Troy Braud who had 118 votes in the runoff election.

Former councilwoman Braud received just seven more votes than she had in the Oct. 17 election when she led four candidates vying for the seat.

Martin had 105 votes on Oct. 17, or 36.33 percent of the vote.

Martin will be sworn in tonight at the Sorrento Council meeting.

He takes over the seat recently occupied by Donald J. Trabeaux, who was temporarily appointed to the seat when former councilman Larry Lee resigned suddenly within a week of being sworn in office.
