Fleming’s outburst pushes Spartans past Lutcher in jamboree
ST. AMANT – East Ascension’s Keith Fleming scored 16 first-half points and finished with 24 to lead the Spartans to a 50-32 victory over Lutcher in the third game of the St. Amant Jamboree Thursday night at the Gold Dome.
Lutcher took the early lead on Tyrun Miles’ basket before Donald LeBlanc fed Fleming inside for a 3-point play and the Spartans never looked back.
“Keith played like we need him to play,” East Ascension head coach Kenny Almond said. “He did have a good night. We are very young and we got a lot of guys in that played well. We are going to have to work to get better. We know the next time we play Lutcher, they will be a different team. Football will be over and they will be very good. We looked very good tonight because Lutcher was younger than us.”
Tyler Wright nailed a 3-pointer for East Ascension before Curtis Watts fed him in transition to give the Spartans a 22-6 lead after Fleming went off.
John Paul Williams’ put back made it 29-15 at halftime after LeBlanc fed him in transition and Devonte Fisher pulled up in transition.
Wright’s dish to Watts preceded Fleming’s inside bucket in the second half. Watt’s 3-pointer and one near the top of the key put EA?ahead 37-20.
After Antione Adams drove baseline for Lutcher, East Ascension went on an 11-0 run courtesy of Bobby Madere’s dish back to Fleming and LeBlanc’s passes to Madere, Wright and Fleming all off steals. Wright’s 3-pointer from the left wing completed the run giving EA their biggest lead 48-26.
