DONALDSONVILLE?– Darnel Rachal ran for two touchdowns and threw for another as Riverside (7-4) shocked sixth-ranked Donaldsonville.

Rachal had a 2-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 1-yard run in the fourth and also threw a 35-yard touchdown to Thomas Crouch in the second quarter as Riverside took a 14-12 halftime lead.

No. 8 seed Donaldsonville (9-2), which never led, suffered 10 penalties for 68 yards and did not convert after its two touchdowns.

The Tigers got both of their touchdowns in the second quarter: Bryant Dunn’s 60-yard pass to Todd  Joseph and Devin Breaux’s 5-yard run.

The Tigers rushed for 175 yards and threw for another 77. No. 25 seed Riverside rushed for 113 yards and threw for another 115.

Riverside controlled the second half limiting the Tigers’ offensive attack by eating up the clock on long drives.

C.J.?Edler’s extra point after Rachel’s last touchdown was the nail in the coffin giving the Rebels a nine-point lead and Donaldsonville attempted three consecutive hail mary passes on the ensuing possession that fell incomplete sealing the victory.
