Lady Gators wrap up District 3-I crown with sweep over Hahnville

ST. AMANT – St. Amant was forced to rally in the third game but scored nine of the final 11 points to sweep Hahnville 25-6, 25-19, 25-17 and wrap up the District 3-I title Thursday night at the Gold Dome.

Coupled with Dutchtown’s 22-25, 25-21, 21-25, 15-25 loss to Destrehan, the Lady Gators claimed the crown outright.

Kayla Young led St. Amant (20-18, 9-1) with seven kills and eight digs, while Sami Marchand provided 22 assists, nine digs and two aces and Peyton?Vincent had 11 digs.

Jamara Celistan led Hahnville with 10 kills and three blocks, while Kaylynne Boyd had 15 digs and Shea Zeringue had 13 assists. 

No. 14 seed St. Amant will host No. 19 seed Sulphur in the bi-district round of the Division I playoffs, while No. 15 seed Dutchtown will host No. 18 seed Carencro. All games must be played by Thursday.

Young’s consecutive kills gave the Lady Gators a 5-4 lead in the third game but Hahnville built a 9-6 lead on Celestan’s kill.

Elena Villar’s consecutive kills put St. Amant back ahead 12-10 but Hahnville went on a 5-3 run to regain the lead 15-13 on Celestan’s kill.

It was all St. Amant after that as a return error set up match point on a net violation. following consecutive kills from Young, Emmy Key’s aces and Maddy?Reardon’s dink.

East Ascension wrapped up the regular season with a 25-19, 25-19, 25-11 sweep of East St. John after falling to Destrehan 13-25, 21-25, 25-16, 19-25 Tuesday.
