Bruno, Linda Ann

She died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Gonzales, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. She was 62, a resident of Prairieville and native of New Orleans. Burial in Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales.

Castelo, Sandra A.

A resident of St. Amant, she died on Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Gonzales Health Care. She was 63. She served her country during the Vietnam era in the U.S. Army with 12 years of service. Visitation at St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales, Tuesday, Sept. 29, from 9 a.m. until a memorial Mass at 10 a.m. Interment in St. Peter Catholic Church Cemetery, Reserve.

Evans, Jason Wade “Big Hungry”

A construction worker, he died Saturday, Sept. 19, 2009, at his home in Prairieville. He was 24 and a native of Baton Rouge. Visiting at Household of Faith on Airline Highway in Gonzales Friday from 8 a.m. until religious service at 10 a.m. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. He attended Dutchtown High School through 12th grade.

Laiche, Karen Smith Naquin

A resident of Gonzales, she died Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at Promise Specialty Hospital, Baton Rouge. She was 66. Burial in Mount Zion Cemetery, Galvez.

LeBlanc, Myrtle Mae Fontenot

She passed away peacefully at home Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at age 71 after a lengthy illness. She was a resident of Sorrento and a native of Whitehall.  Interment in Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery, St. Amant. She was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church.

Parker, Milbern

A resident of St. Amant, he died Sunday, Sept. 20, 2009, in Baton Rouge. He was 81 and a native of Baton Rouge, retired painter from Local 728 and a U.S. Army veteran. Interment in New River Methodist Cemetery.

Sanchez, Jo Ann Vicknair

Jo Ann Vicknair Sanchez, 73, a native of French Settlement and resident of Gonzales, died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009, at The Carpenter House. Visitation was at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, Wednesday, Sept. 23, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Visitation was at St. Mark Catholic Church, Gonzales, on Thursday, Sept. 24, from 9 a.m. until a Mass of Christian Burial was at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Reuben Reynolds, celebrant. Entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum, Gonzales. Survived by her husband of 54 years, J.C. Sanchez; son, Martin J. Sanchez, D.V.M.; a daughter, Lynn Ann Sanchez; sister, Shirley Schexnaider Bourque; brother, Norman “Peekie” Vicknair; sisters-in-law and spouses, Dianna and Eddie Vigil, Barbara and Jorda Young Sr., Beatrice and Harris Bourque and Carolyn and Glenn Parent Sr.; mother-in-law, Bernice Sanchez; brothers-in-law and their spouses, Johnny and Claire Sanchez and Pat and Patricia Sanchez. Preceded in death by her mother, Annez “Neet” Murphy Arnold; father, Norman A. Vicknair; stepfather, Alton “Bay” Schexnaider; brother, Jerome Vicknair; and father-in-law, Clarence J. Sanchez. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi sorority of which she pledged in December 1977. She had been a present member of the Laureate Psi Chapter of Gonzales and held a Laureate degree in sorority. The offices she held included president, treasurer and recording and corresponding secretary. Awards she received included the Order of the Rose, Silver Circle, Woman of the Year and the Sweetheart Award, numerous times. She maintained perfect attendance in her chapter for 31 years until last year when she became ill. She was best friends with all of her chapter sisters. She enjoyed shopping, trips and traveling with her chapter sisters.  She was co-owner of Old Time Farm Supply Inc., Gonzales. She retired with 25 years of service as a bookkeeper with Tricon Steamship Agency, Inc. in Gonzales. The family would like to give a special thanks to all of the nurses and staff on the West Wing of the oncology floor at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center and also the nurses and staff at The Carpenter House. Thanks also to Dr. Georgia Reine and Dr. Vince Cataldo. She was deeply loved by us all! Stevens, Alberta Eva “Bertie” LeBlanc

A resident of Gonzales, she died Monday, Sept. 21, 2009. She was 85. Burial in Holy Rosary Catholic Cemetery. She was a member of St. Theresa of Avila Catholic Church and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.
