Prairieville man appointed to Veteran’s Affairs Commission

BATON ROUGE – John Abshire of Prairieville was appointed to the Veterans’ Affairs Commission, Gov. Bobby Jindal announced.

The commission serves to advise the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and the governor on matters relating to the welfare of veterans.

Abshire is the Louisiana academic affairs manager for the University of Phoenix in Baton Rouge and a veteran of the United States Army Reserve. He will serve as an honorably discharged veteran nominated by a nationally chartered veterans organization with a Louisiana affiliate, as required by statute.

According to statute, the commission is comprised of nine gubernatorial appointments, subject to senate confirmation. Each member must be an honorably discharged veteran nominated by a nationally chartered veterans organization with a Louisiana affiliate.
