Donaldsonville man convicted of robbery

Staff reports

Christopher Phillip, 25, of 5096 Hwy. 1 South, Donaldsonville, was found guilty on the charge of first-degree robbery on May 13 in Gonzales.

After listening to testimony of witnesses and viewing evidence, a jury of 12 deliberated for about 90 minutes before returning with the guilty verdict, according to a release from District Attorney Ricky Babin.

A pre-sentencing investigation was ordered by the court and sentencing was deferred. Phillip could serve up to 40 years in jail.

Phillip was arrested on September 15, 2008 by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office after a report of a 76-year-old Donaldsonville man was attacked and robbed.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Benjamin L. Johnson.
