Cyclists ride through Ascension

More than 50 cyclists made their way through back roads and highways of Ascension and St. James parishes Thursday, en route to New Orleans for Tour du Rouge, a ride benefiting the American Red Cross chapters along the Gulf Coast.

More than 50 cyclists made their way through back roads and highways of Ascension and St. James parishes Thursday, en route to New Orleans for Tour du Rouge, a ride benefiting the American Red Cross chapters along the Gulf Coast.

Tour du Rouge, a cycling tour consisting of more than 500 miles, began Sunday in Houston, and ends Friday in New Orleans.

The cyclists, crew, volunteers and support teams of friends and family stayed overnight in Gonzales.

Cyclists came from all over the country, including California, Washington, Pennsylvania, New York, Texas, Mississippi and Louisiana; one cyclist was from Ontario, each with the passion for cycling and wanting to support the American Red Cross mission.
