Man found guilty of drug charge
A 12-person Ascension Parish Jury found Derrick Watts of Donaldsonville guilty as charged to possession of a Schedule I Controlled Dangerous Substance on April 30 in Gonzales, according to a release from the 23rd Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
Ascension Parish deputies arrested Watts on Nov. 25, 2003, the release said.
The range of penalties for the charge is imprisonment for not more than ten years at hard labor, according to the release.
Watts was remanded to the custody of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office and was held without bond pending sentencing on July 27, the release said. The state then informed the defendant that it will file a multiple offender bill since the conviction was Watts’ third felony conviction, the release added.
