Alcohol use suspected in fatal motorcycle crash

Staff reports

BATON ROUGE – A Geismar man died in a motorcycle crash shortly after midnight Sunday, according to Louisiana State Police.

Dwight T. Scott, 50, was pronounced dead at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Tpr. Russell Graham said.

Acadian Ambulance transported Scott to the hospital with serious injuries after the crash on Hwy. 73 near Cornerview Road in Geismar, Graham said.

Scott’s Honda Goldwing reportedly was traveling north on Hwy. 73 when it crossed the center line and ran off the road to the left. Graham said Scott re-entered the highway, lost control and fell to the pavement.

Troopers suspect alcohol use to have been a factor in the crash, and blood and urine samples have been sent to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Graham said.

Scott was wearing a helmet, but troopers said it was not DOT-approved.

Graham said drinking and driving is a deadly combination and troopers will continue to aggressively enforce the state’s DWI laws.

Citizens can report reckless and possibly impaired driving at any time by calling *LSP from a cell phone, Graham said.
