Hurricane Katrina has left the people of our home and several others in a state of preparation and readiness.

Families, businesses and other organizations that make our  community what it is, are concentrating their efforts on quicker response time, greater service, and anything else to remain prepared for future storms.

In April the 922nd Horizontal Engineer Company of Gonzales reignited their drive for readiness.

Soldiers of the 922nd participated in a statewide training event for hurricane preparation.

This challenging and productive event was held at the New Orleans Lake Front Municipal Airport on April 4.

A variety of training exercises from boating missions to search and rescue were practiced and diligently rehearsed by our heroes in green.

The troops absorbed the expertise offered by the Wildlife and Fisheries department, Louisiana State Troopers, and other amazingly skilled experts conducting the training.

Sergeant Chance Crochet of Prairieville said the “search and rescue lane was a good class because it will be a scenario that we as Guardsmen will encounter on just about all hurricane duty events.”

The search and rescue exercise was a scenario in which the soldiers tactically entered a storm-destroyed building utilizing only the calls for help heard throughout the area as a guide.

Troops would clear the building of any apparent dangers and threats while safely removing any victims of the mock storm.

Our 922nd soldiers whisked through the training without a flaw and proved once again the stamina, knowledge, and team work breed into all troops bearing the title Guardsman.

The training exercised on April 4 was the first of many based around building more knowledge, quicker response, greater effectiveness, and a unit this community can count on to be the strength that supports its neighbors.
