Sorrento elects mayor Saturday

SORRENTO – Town Councilman Randy Anny and resident Blake A. LeBlanc will vie in the Saturday primary election for the mayor’s seat to be vacated by Brenda Melancon.

Both candidates are Democrats.

Also running in the election for town councilman are incumbents Milton “Needlenose” Vicknair and Larry Lee, both Democrats.

A total of eight persons are running for the five seats on the council.

Challengers are Doug Adams, No Party; John Braud, No Party; Holly Jackson, Democrat; Wilson Longanecker Jr., Democrat; Lionel Melancon, Jr., Democrat, and Donald J. Trabeaux Jr., Democrat.

Incumbent council members Troy Braud and Edwin Pezant declined to run for re-election.

Police Chief Earl Theriot qualified without opposition and was re-elected.

The General Election will be held May 2 for runoff seats.
