Southeast Louisiana rodeos coming to Lamar-Dixon

Young cowboys and cowgirls from around the southeastern region of the state are coming to Gonzales.

The Southeast Louisiana High School Rodeo and Junior High School Rodeo will be at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales March 20-22.

The performances start at 7 a.m. March 20-21 and 9 a.m. March 22. The cost is $5 per person, and children ages 3 and under are admitted free.

A stick horse rodeo will take place March 21 at 3 p.m. for ages 1-10. Church service will be March 22 at 7:30 a.m. A rodeo dance will be March 21 following the rodeo events, and the cost is $5.

Several students from Ascension Parish are members of the Southeast Louisiana High School Rodeo Club. All club members are also members of the Louisiana High School Rodeo Associatioin and the National High School Rodeo Association.

They compete in 20 rodeos throughout the school year for a chance to go to the state finals June 12-20, which are also held at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center, in the hopes of going on to the National Finals in August.

Ascension Parish members include: Randi Robert, East Ascension High, barrel racing and pole bending; Chyna Hogan, St. Amant High, barrel racing and goat tying; Sami Sylvester, St. Michael High, barrel racing, pole bending and goat tying; Clint Myers, East Ascension High, bull riding; Grant Smith, Dutchtown High, tie-down roping; Tyler Waguespack, East Ascension High, tie-down roping and steer wrestling; Jessica James, Dutchtown High, barrels, poles and goat tying; Jacob O’Mara, St. Amant High, bull riding; Shelby Goodwin, Dutchtown High, barrels and poles; Kade Aucoin, Wrangler Division (middle school); Sidney Sehon, Faith Academy, Wrangler Division, barrels and poles; Elise Guillory, Wrangler Division; and Shannon and Haylie Heath, Wrangler Division.

Clint Myers, a senior at East Ascension High School, is a first-year member of LHSRA/SELHSRA.
