St. Amant levels Springfield in Grady Hornsby Classic

DENHAM SPRINGS - St. Amant jumped out to a 33-19 halftime lead and coasted to a 62-43 victory over Springfield at the Grady Hornsby Classic Monday evening at Denham Springs High School.

“We are playing like I thought we would be early in the year,” St. Amant head coach Gary Duhe said. “We have a long way to go. We are trying to win everyday regardless of if it is a game or practice. We are trying to win everyday and get better everyday.”

St. Amant (4-0) was led by Rashaun Claiborne with 27 points. Brandon Morris added 18.

Antonio Patrick led Springfield with 11 points.

The Gators also defeated Walker 61-48 Tuesday night after outscoring the Wildcats 17-8 in the first quarter. The Gators took a 31-18 halftime lead before outscoring Walker 25-15 in the third quarterr.

Morris led the Gators with 27 points. Claiborne added 18, while Bruce Mathison provided nine, Steve Fulkerson added three and Nick Morris and Jeff St. Pierre each had two.

Johnel Reams led Walker with 14 points. Taylor Meades added 10, while Leroy Williams provided nine, David Zachery had eight, Jeremy Carter contributed four, Cole Bass had two and Kyron Scott added one.

Brandon Morris nailed three 3-pointer for St. Amant while Mathison and Claibore each had one.

Meades and Williams each had one for Walker.
