The Pentecostals recently presented plaques of appreciation to two Prairieville businesses for their donation of a new roof.

Garcia Roofing & Sheet Metal and Louisiana Roofing Supply teamed up to replace the church’s roof after it was damaged by Hurricane Gustav. Garcia’s donation of roofing installation is valued at more than $22,000, while LRS’s material donation retails at about $10,000.

“I’ve known the people of this church for years & they are very deserving. It was a blessing to us to be able to do this,” said Gabriel Garcia, founder of Garcia Roofing & Sheet Metal.

The plaques were presented by Pastor Charles Hatcher III and Pastor Emeritus Elton Bernard.

Even though roof contracting services and supplies are at a premium following the recent spate of hail and hurricanes, the owners of Garcia and LRS both felt they needed to assist the church after they were told about the leaking roof and high deductible required by the church’s insurance.

“It’s great to be able to give back to our community, especially when you know it’s going to a good cause like this,” said Louisiana Roofing Supply owner Fred Garcia.

The shingles LRS donated are a higher grade than the original shingles and have a 30-year warranty.

In 1996, The Pentecostals began an outreach into the Hispanic community and met Fred Garcia and Gabriel Garcia. Both gentlemen became born again Christians at The Pentecostals. The outreach became so large, it became an autonomous church, Centro de Vida, and is now located on Airline Highway in Gonzales.

“The Pentecostals are so glad to have a brand new roof that we won’t have to worry with for many years to come,” said Hatcher. “Galatians 6:10 states, ‘As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.’ Both Garcia Roofing and Louisiana Roofing Supply are a perfect practical example of what this Scripture states.”
