SAHS’ Vincent named District 4-I’s top defender

St. Amant landed three on the all-District 4-1 first team, including Defensive Player of the Year, junior libero Peyton Vincent.
In all, the Lady Gators, who placed second in district play with an 8-2 mark before being eliminated by New Iberia in the bi-district playoffs, were well represented with five players earning district honors.
Dutchtown, who placed third in district play with a 5-5 mark and was eliminated from the Division I playoffs by Dominican in the first round, placed four girls on the squad.
East Ascension finished in fifth place with a 2-8 record and one player earned district honors.
Vincent was named to the first-team along with senior teammates, Victoria Ojea and Laney Gautreau and Dutchtown senior Chelsea Magee.
Hahnville’s Rayven Scott was named MVP and Destrehan’s Denise Keller was awarded Coach of the Year.
Dutchtown’s Justine Tureau and Haley Bain were joined on the second team by St. Amant’s Kayla Young. Earning honorable mention were St. Amant’s Megan Poore, Dutchtown’s Rachael Pickens and East Ascension’s Olivia Maher.
Vincent finished with a team-high 154 digs in district play and 11 aces. Overall, she had 486 digs and 39 aces.
Ojea, a middle blocker, led the Lady Gators with 192 kills in district to go with 30 digs, 25 blocks and 22 aces. Overall, she finished with 551 kills, 90, digs, 66 blocks and 46 aces.
Gautreau, a setter, led St. Amant with 328 assists in district to go with 106 digs, 26 kills and 12 aces. Overall, she had 892 assists, 307 digs, 72 kills and 32 aces.
Magee, an outside hitter, led Dutchtown with 74 kills in district to go with 127 digs.
Tureau, Dutchtown’s libero, had a team-high 163 digs in district play to go with 13 aces. Bain, a setter, led the Lady Griffins with 183 assists in district to go with 52 digs.
Young, an outside hitter, provided 126 digs, 77 kills and 22 aces in district play and overall had 425 digs, 223 kills and a team-high 56 aces.
Poore, also an outside hitter, added 104 digs, 71 kills, 16 assists and 13 aces in district play and had 393 digs, 182 kills and 54 aces overall.
Pickens, a middle blocker, had 49 kills in district play.
Maher is a setter for East Ascension.
