The Ascension Parish School Board voted during its regular meeting Tuesday in the Parish Council chambers in Gonzales to approve a bid from a Texas company for resurfacing the track facilities at both East Ascension and St. Amant high schools.

The board awarded the $612,000 contract to low bidder Texas Sports Builders, Inc. of Burleson, Texas.

Prior to the full board meeting, system maintenance director Jeff Parent told the board’s Maintenance Committee that the bid came in over the $575,000 budgeted for the repairs.

Parent said work at the tracks was set to begin in mid-November, and that the work would be warrantied for five years.

Under its consent agenda, the board voted to approve a job description for and advertise the vacancy for an administrative assistant to the superintendent and board. The consent agenda also inlcuded permission to advertise for a senior accountant, filling the position Betsy Landry will vacate when she takes over for retiring DIrector of Business Services Kathy Hebert later this year.

The board also recognized a donation of 120 dictionaries from the East Ascension Rotary Club to third graders at Prairieville Primary School.

In other news, the board voted to cancel its Nov. 4 meeting because of the national elections taking place that day. Its next regular meeting will be Nov. 18 in Gonzales.
