Bust involves pounds of marijuana

The Sheriff’s Office seized over 15 pounds of marijuana and arrested a Gonzales man on distribution charges Oct. 9, Sheriff Jeff Wiley reported.

A second man sought in connection with the investigation was expected to surrender to police Friday evening, the sheriff said.

John Anthony Moses, 20, of 38543 Arrowhead Drive, Gonzales, was taken into custody after narcotics officers executed a search warrant at an abandoned home on Cornerview Road and found the marijuana, Wiley said.

Agents learned during the course of the investigation that Moses was allegedly sent to the abandoned home by his brother Travis Moses to retrieve the marijuana, according to Wiley.

Police obtained an arrest warrant for Travis Moses, 27, also of 38543 Arrowhead Drive, for conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute marijuana, and he surrendered to authorities Friday, Wiley said.

John Anthony Moses is charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of marijuana, the sheriff said. He has been released on a $10,686.50 bond set by Judge Alvin Turner.
