SORRENTO – The International Economic Development Council (IEDC), the professional international economic development organization, recently awarded its 2008 Excellence In Economic Development special purpose Web site category award to the Ascension Economic Development Corporation (AEDC).

AEDC received the honor  for its Web site that provides comprehensive information on the certified Pointe Sunshine megasite and the Orange Grove megasite, both in Ascension Parish.

AEDC officials will receive the award at the annual IEDC conference in Atlanta Oct. 20.

AEDC was chosen from hundreds of other US and international economic development organizations for the award in the population category of 50,000-200,000 residents. The website has complete engineering reports on the megasite properties including Phase I environmental, geotechnical, utilities, wetlands determination, and archeological and cultural reports and a boundary survey.

The site also includes an animated presentation summarizing pertinent information on the Pointe Sunshine site for site selection consultants and prospective companies. More than thirty geographic system information (GIS) maps are also available on the sites with information on transportation, infrastructure, workforce, pipelines, soils, and wetlands, including suitability analyses on best sites in the Parish most appropriate for industrial development.

The site was developed by AEDC staff, its webmaster Mike Schwall, C-K Associates, and LEO, LLC. Engineering reports were completed by Aquaterra and Duplantis Engineering on the Pointe Sunshine site.
