Town Hall meetings on adult wellness scheduled

Staff reports

Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez will be host two public forums presented by Capital Area Human Services District (CAHSD) to gather citizens’ input on potential wellness and preventive services needed and ideas on how to better connect citizens to existing services.

A Gonzales town Hall meeting will be held at the Parish Courthouse East on South Irma Boulevard Oct. 7, while a  Donaldsonville Town Hall meeting will be held at the Parish Courthouse on Houmas Street Nov. 18.

The meetings will run from  6:15 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.

The public forums are part of CAHSD’s effort to improve the physical health and emotional well-being of the un/underinsured population in its region. In partnership with other community providers, information received at these meetings will be used to develop a parish-specific integrated public preventive and behavioral health system of care approach delivered within the parish. Discussions will not cover delivery of medical care.

There will be a brief overview of the major diseases experienced by citizens in the region and their risk factors. The majority of the forum will be a facilitated discussion where citizens can share their thoughts related to addressing local gaps in access to preventive care for adults.

This facilitated discussion will define the health problems most prevalent in the region,  identify priority needs and discuss ideas on how to address those needs. CAHSD will work with other providers and local governments to develop a follow-up summary of findings and an action plan which will be posted at

Churches, school board members, chambers of commerce, business leaders, local and state elected officials, public health staff, health care providers, hospitals and councils on aging have all been invited to join the discussion.

No registration is needed.
