Parish residents urged to have debris ready for removal

Staff reports

Ascension Parish officials are urging residents to have their vegetative storm debris ready at the roadside for pickup because removal crews are now operating parishwide.

“We now have maximized the number of hauling crews,” said Jackie Baumann, chief engineer with the Ascension Parish Department of Public Works. “With the great weather we’ve been having, operations have been running smoother than expected.”

Baumann said contract crews on the east bank have been working from the parish boundaries toward the center of the parish. She said debris collection in the eastern side of the east bank is nearly complete except for areas where smaller equipment was needed to access those areas.

She said crews on the west bank focused their schedule on the City of Donaldsonville and are working eastward and westward from that center.

Baumann said contract company CDM, who is tasked with monitoring debris removal operations, is now providing a debris removal hotline for residents with questions or complaints. The hotline is automated and residents will be answered in a timely manner, officials said. The debris removal hotline number is 663-3041.
