Registrar announces 1,724 voters turn in early ballots last week
The Ascension Parish Registrar of Voters Office released figures Monday showing that 1,724 absentee voters cast ballots during the early voting period ending Saturday.
“That was a higher turnout than we expected,”?Registrar of Voters Robert Poche said.
A total of 1,231 Gonzales absentee voters cast ballots in advance of the Oct. 4 primary elections, including 316 ballots in the city and 915 outside city limits.
In Donaldsonville, 493 absentee ballots were cast. There were 410 in-city ballots and 83 cast outside the city.
State and district races to be contested in the Oct. 4 election incude the 21st Judicial District Attorney’s office, the 5th District Associate Justice on the Louisiana Supreme Court, the District 1 seat on the state’s Public Service Commission.
Local elections on the ballot include the parish’s 3rd Justice Court Justice of the Peace and the 2nd Justice Court’s Constable, mayors and council members for the cities of Gonzales and Donaldsonville, Gonzales Police Chief, two home rule charter amendments for the City of Donaldsonville and a 5-mill, 10-year tax issue for the East Ascension Consolidated Gravity Drainage District.
