Sorrento emergency food stamp location to close

Officials with the Louisiana Department of Social Services said Tuesday that the emergency food stamp distribution center at the Ascension Civic Center in Sorrento will close Wednesday at 6 p.m. and open Thursday in Gonzales at its regular office location.

Residents affected by Hurricane Gustav and seeking emergency food stamp assistance may go to the Department of Social Services and Family Support Office located at 1078 E. Worthy St., Gonzales.

State officials said emergency food stamp distribution is extended until Oct. 1 and will continue service seven days a week from 8 a.m. till 6 p.m. each day at that location.

Officials said parish residents already using the food stamp program may continue to use the Gonzales location
