Alleman Sr., Manuel Joseph
He was born Sept. 1, 1929, and passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, due to cardiac arrest. He was a retired mechanic and had worked for years at Griffin & Griffin’s Auto Shop in Donaldsonville. At this time he also delivered the Morning Advocate and New Orleans Times Picayune. After the auto shop closed, he continued to work for Chuck Griffin’s Muffler Shop until he retired. Interment in the Ascension Catholic Cemetery.
Andrews, Virgil Jesse “Ben”
A resident of Gonzales, he passed away on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at age 79. He was born on Aug. 29, 1928, in Port Vincent, and was a Korean War veteran and member of Gray’s Creek Baptist Church. Interment in the Felder Cemetery.
Babin, Elden H. “Bill”
A resident of St. Amant, he died on Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at Promise of Ascension Hospital in Gonzales. He was 86 and an Exxon retiree. Burial will follow in the Holy Rosary Catholic Church Cemetery, St. Amant.
Babin, Leslie L.
He died Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008. He was retired owner of Hebert Blind and Awning Co., a resident of Central, a native of Dutchtown and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Burial at Resthaven Gardens of Memory.
Blanton, Kevin Michael
A native of New Orleans, he died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at 8 a.m. at his home in Prairieville. He was 17. Burial in Hope Haven Cemetery in Gonzales.
Cole, David Curtis
A retired insurance adjuster, he passed away at his home in Prairieville on Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008. He was 66 and a native of Louisville, Miss., but spent most of his life in Ruston.
Earl, Aidan Quinn
A resident and native of Gonzales, he died on Friday, Aug. 29, 2008, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center. He was 3. Interment in the Christian Assembly church cemetery.
Falcon, Meredith Paul
A truck driver and a resident of Alameda, Calif., he died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at his home. He was 49 and a native of Donaldsonville. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Johnson Sr., Arthur “Buck”
A retired maintenance supervisor and a lifelong resident of Donaldsonville, he died Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2008, at Prevost Memorial Hospital. He was 69. Entombment in Ascension Catholic Mausoleum. His hobbies were building houses, fishing, hunting and buying and selling pecans.
Johnson, Daisy Mae
A retired cafeteria worker with the Ascension Parish school system, she died on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Gonzales Health Care, Gonzales. She was 63 and a resident and native of Gonzales. Interment in the Do Right Full Gospel Baptist Church Cemetery.
McGee, Betty Iwana “Coach”
Coach Iwana McGee, a retired teacher and coach, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at her home in Dutchtown. Burial in Morton Memorial Gardens. , Bessie Coach McGee invested her life in hundreds of high school athletes. After a standout basketball career at Brandon (Mississippi) High School, from which she graduated in 1963, she went on to play for Hinds Junior College in Raymond, Miss., and the University of Southern Mississippi. Upon finishing college, she coached high school basketball in Jackson, Ga., where she led her team to two state titles. In 1979, she took over the storied program at Hammond High, and led the program to three consecutive state titles. After a one-year stay at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas, Coach McGee returned to Louisiana to coach at East Ascension High School, garnering several district titles and state playoffs and championship appearances. She retired from coaching in 2004 as one of the winningest coaches in Louisiana high school girls’ basketball history. She was an active fan of sports of all kinds. For years she loved competing on tournament softball teams. She followed with great interest the successful turnaround of the Baylor University Lady Bears basketball team, coached by her dear friend Kim Mulkey, and their national championship win in 2005. Throughout her life, and especially during the last few years, she enjoyed fishing and being outdoors at her home in Dutchtown.

A retired assistant vice president of Chase Bank and a resident of Gonzales, she died at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. She was 68 and a native of Plaisance. Interment in Resthaven Gardens of Memory
Raffray, Lillian Marie Poche
A homemaker and a resident of St. Amant, she died Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at Zachary Manor Nursing Home. She was 97 and a native of Lutcher. Visitation at Ourso Funeral Home on Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. until service at 10:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Thomas Labat. Interment at Hope Haven Cemetery, Gonzales.
St. Cyr, Hazel Naquin Petit
A homemaker and a longtime resident of Donaldsonville, she died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008. She was 97 and a native of Labadieville. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Donaldsonville, on Friday, Aug. 29, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. Religious service at Ascension Catholic Church, Donaldsonville, on Friday at 10:30 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Phil Spano. Interment in the church cemetery

A homemaker and resident of St. Amant, she died Wednesday, Aug. 27, 2008, at her home. She was 61 and a native of Morganza. Cremation followed.
Tillman, Billy “Rocky”
A retired Quality Control inspector and a resident of Gonzales, he died at 12:15 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, 2008, in Jennings. He was 77, a native of Clinton and a U.S. Army veteran and prisoner of war during the Korean War. Visiting at Ourso Funeral Home, Gonzales, on Tuesday, Sept. 9, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until religious service at 11 a.m. Entombment in Hope Haven Mausoleum, Prairieville.

A custodian for Glazer's and a resident of Lafayette, she died Thursday, Aug. 28, 2008, at Lafayette General Hospital. She was 47 and a native of Prairieville. Interment in Community Cemetery, Prairieville.
