Lamar-Dixon POD to close Thursday, Lemann Center to continue offering services
The hurricane supply point of distribution at the Lamar-Dixon Expo Center will close at noon Thursday, according to a report from parish government officials Wednesday.
The Donaldsonville distribution center, located at the Lemann Memorial Center, will remain open until further notice, the report read.
Both centers were opened to assist parish residents in need of supplies in the wake of Hurricane Gustav.
As of noon Wednesday, both distribution centers had been resupplied with water, ice, MRE’s and tarps. Distribution hours have been from 9 a.m. till 6 p.m.
Tarp distribution will continue at the Lamar-Dixon site until 5 p.m. signaling the overall closure of that distribution location.
The Lemann Center POD site will extend its hours Thursday until 8 p.m. and will close Friday because of Hurricane Ike storm activity, parish officials said. The site will reopen Saturday at 9 a.m. and will continue operating on a day-by-day basis, depending on the availability of electricity on the west bank.
