Martinez orders closure of waterways to recreation boat traffic

Parish President Tommy Martinez issued an executive order Thursday closing the Amite River and Diversion Canal to recreational waterway traffic and closed the waterways until further notice.

In the order, Martinez said that high water levels on the Amite River and Diversion Canal has the potential to cause extensive damage in the parish and that “immediate emergency actions are required to minimize the threat to life and property of the citizens of the parish.”
