Wiley: Power outages, downed trees across parish from Gustav

Sheriff Jeff Wiley is reporting numerous power outages in Ascension Parish from Hurricane Gustav's landfall.

Winds in the parish have been measured anywhere between 60 and 80 miles per hour, according to wind gauges located in the parish.

Wiley said Monday afternoon just after 2 p.m. that deputies are reporting numerous trees and power lines are down throughout the parish.

The sheriff also said that emergency officials have aided some residents in evacuating homes after downed trees struck their homes. He also reported that there have been few reported injuries in the parish from the storm.
