Contraflow traffic to begin at 4 a.m. Sunday
Gov. Bobby Jindal said Saturday that contra flow traffic on major arteries from south Louisiana would begin at 4 a.m. Sunday, in advance of Hurricane Gustav's projected landfall.
State officials had originally set the start time to 6 a.m. Sunday, but pushed the time up because Gustav had strengthened to a Category 4 hurricane, with top sustained winds near 150 miles per hour.
From the southeast, drivers heading to Baton Rouge must take Interstate 10 West or U.S. 190 West. Drivers coming from the southwest will take Interstate 10 East.
This will be the first time in Louisiana history that that contraflow will be used in the entire south Louisiana region. The practice uses direction of all vehicle travel lanes in one direction
