Parish seeking comments on Cannon Road one-way project

Parish public works officials are looking for input from Cannon Road residents on the possibility of turning a portion of the roadway into a one-way street.

The parish is currently accepting written comments only from residents living along the road near Gonzales to use as part of its study on the project, Public Works Director Bob Turner said.

Last month, Turner brought before the Parish Council a proposal to make the stretch of Cannon Road between Roddy Road and Hwy. 44 into a westbound, one-way road because of the road’s narrowness.

This stretch includes Cannon Road’s intersections with Gravois Subdivision Road, Pasae Lane, A.T. Quinn Road, O’Neal Road and N. Amelia Avenue.

Turner said in the letter issued to Cannon Road residents that the average existing road width is 16 feet. Therefore, the road would be striped with white edge lines spaced 14 feet apart to leave a 1-foot shoulder on each side of the road. In addition, proper signage would be installed along the road to ensure motorists are clearly informed of the one-way condition.

After all public comments are compiled, DPW will prepare a report of the findings and present the report to the Parish Council’s Transportation Committee at an upcoming meeting.

Residents along Cannon Road are asked to submit written comments to parish government at Comments can also be mailed to: Ascension Parish Department of Public Works, ATTN: Cannon Road Survey, 42077 Churchpoint Road, Gonzales, LA., 70737.

Anyone who submits comments is asked to include their name and full address to help parish government accurately process their e-mails.
