Kelli's Kloset pop-up visits Mary Bird Perkins in Gonzales

Kelli's "dream come true" continues to help cancer patients, even from heaven.

Kelli Leigh Richmond was diagnosed with Stage III Ovarian Cancer and battled it for two-and-a-half years.

During one of Kelli's chemo treatments, she noticed a woman who had to pin her skirt so it would fit. After that, she told her mother that she wanted to start a store that could provide cancer patients with clothes that fit for free.

Kelli passed away before she could achieve that, but Kelli's mother and father opened Kelli's Kloset in support of their daughter on June 7, 2014.

On March 14, Kelli's Kloset on wheels visited the Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center in Gonzales, Louisiana.

"Kelli's Kloset is just for cancer patients and right now just for women," Lucela Lormand said, who was helping to work Kelli's Kloset. "It's difficult for cancer patients to find clothes that fit because they are constantly changing in sizes. With Kelli's Kloset, they are able to come find sizes that fit for free. If they need something for an event, for example, they can come find it here and even bring it back afterwards for someone else to wear."

The organization makes sure the clothes are in good shape before accepting a donation. One thing they look for is armpit stains. Makeup residue in the collar area is another thing. If the item not in a good condition, they cannot accept it. They accept other items, too, like purses, jewelry, belts, and shoes.

If you're interested in donating items to Kelli's Kloset, you may do so Wednesday and Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., and Saturday from 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. They are located in Sherwood Plaza at 11240 Florida Blvd in Baton Rouge.
