With their first of many future Lunch and Learn's, Francois Bend is making sure prospective residents know what they have to offer.

On November 12, Francois had a Luncheon at the Bend event, which presented information about the living arrangements and amenities.

The menu for the luncheon included their daily specials or house specials. In the near future, daily specials will be rotated monthly so the residents don't get bored with the same things.

Richard Shackelford is the new Executive Chef for Francois Bend, and he makes all of the great food that they serve. He is also the owner of Starlite Cafe right here in Gonzales.

"We also have Sunday brunches that the public can enjoy," Amanda Williams, Director of Marketing said. "It will cost $15 dollars and is between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., and it will feature a carving station and a complimentary mimosa."

To being the event Claire LeBlanc, the new Activity Director for the Memory Care Community, shared some information on what she looks forward to doing.

"I'm hoping to bring the best things to our Memory Care Program," LeBlanc said. "You'll probably hear a lot of singing with those residents because music is universal, and everyone understands that."

Although Francois Bend is licensed as an assisted living facility, a resident has the option to move in as an independent if they do not require additional help.

"Every 90 days, our nurses will do re-evaluations of our residents health to determine if their needs have changed," Williams said. "If so, we will assist with those changes."

Their Memory Care Community has 24 rooms that are unfurnished. This way, future residents can bring in their own decorations to make it feel like home. There are only ten more memory care room available. All of the lower level assisted living rooms have all been reserved already.

There is also an in-house pharmacy that will assist with the residents medications. Francois Bend works with local pharmacies like Landry's and Lagniappe to fill prescriptions. However, residents may use a different business if they'd prefer.

"There is no minimum age requirement, either, but the average age of our residents is around 85. A lot of younger guys who come in will see the virtual golf room, and then they will jokingly ask where they can sign up to move in," Williams said.

In the future, the owners plan on opening more Francois Bend communities within Louisiana. With the Gonzales location, they are learning what they can do differently in the future, as well as continue to be the best they can be.

The next event will be held November 29 with wine and cheese at 3 p.m. Francois Bend is located at 326 East Industry Street.
