Harvest Time Food Bank

Harvest Time Food Bank has changed its day of distribution. Food will now be available for pick up on Saturdays starting September 22. Time of distribution will be from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Harvest Time Worship Center located 4462 Jenkins Road, Darrow, La. 70725.

BOO and the Badge

The Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office presents BOO and the Badge on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Hickley M. Waguespack Center, 1201 Maginnis Street, Donaldsonville, La. Italians in Louisiana Book Signing

On Wednesday, September 26, 6 p.m. at the Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville, Alan Gauthreaux, a Marerro native, professor and Orleans Parish Sheriff's Deputy, will lead an informative look at the story of the Italian people in our state. Afterwards, he will sign copies of his book, "Italian Louisiana: History, Heritage & Tradition." Light refreshments will be served. Registration is required to attend. Local Governor's Appointment

Bobby Webre, of Gonzales, was appointed to the Child Protection Act Advisory Commission. Webre is a Lieutenant Colonel and Chief Deputy at the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office. He is also a veteran of the United States Army. He will serve as a representative of the Louisiana law enforcement community.

Lane Closures

Construction has begun for turn Lanes is in Ascension Parish for a length of 1.235 miles. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that there will be intermittent lane closures beginning Wednesday, September 12 thru Friday, September 14 and Monday, September 17 thru Thursday, September 21 for the following lanes: Causey Road, Westbound, leaving LA 44; Merrit Evans Road, Eastbound, leaving LA 44; LA 933 Eastbound, Leaving LA 44; LA 933 Westbound, Leaving LA 44. These closures are necessary in order for the contractor to install new signal mast arms at the two intersections with LA 44. The closures will take place individually between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. Thru traffic will be allowed both approaching LA 44 and on LA 44 with the exception of stopping traffic temporarily while the signal mast arms are put in place, estimating to take approximately 2-5 mins.

Dutchtown Golf Fundraiser

The cheerleaders of Dutchtown High School announce they will be hosting a golf tournament fundraiser at Santa Maria Golf Course on Monday October 15, 2018. The junior varsity and varsity cheerleaders will be raising money for their upcoming trip to The High School Cheerleading Championships in ESPN’s Wide World of Sports in Orlando, Fla. Cheerleaders are seeking local business and community members to sponsor and play in their first ever golf tournament. Players will experience a fun event with plenty of freebies and prizes. There are fun games plan to make your day of golf a great experience. Sponsors will be welcomed to get involved with tournament. Ascension Council on Aging Membership Drive

The Ascension Council on Aging is holding its annual membership drive until October 1, 2018. Membership in the council is open without restrictions to parish residents who have reached the age of majority. There is no fee for membership. Persons interested in the problems and concerns of the elderly and wishing to serve in some capacity may apply at 101 Bocage Drive in Donaldsonville and 526 South Irma Boulevard in Gonzales. Adult Art Classes

Take time to relax in an adult Beginning Watercolor class in the evening. Watercolor artist, Betty Marks will instruct you in working with the watercolor medium. Class is held on Thursday evenings: Sept 13, 20, 27, and October 4. Jazz Listening Room

The Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge is proud to announce a continued partnership with Chorum Hall and present the first artist for its 2018 Jazz Listening Room Series, Moutin Factory Quintet on September 28, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. The Jazz Listening Room, a series of cabaret style jazz concerts featuring nationally and internationally known acts in an intimate setting, is designed to provide greater access to world-class jazz music performance at nominal fees for audiences in diverse settings. J.Low Fall Festival, Duck Derby

Ready, set, Quack to the finish line! Join Girl Scouts Louisiana East for two Saturdays of fun camp activities and friendly competition at its annual J.Low Fall Festival and Duck Derby on Saturday, October 20 at Girl Scout Camp Marydale, 10317 Cr-232 in St. Francisville and Saturday, October 27 at Girl Scout Camp Whispering Pines, 56535 Highway 1054 in Independence. Join us at the Main Library at Goodwood for Addiction: Sabotage, Sobriety, Surrender, a compelling exhibition featuring the vibrantly striking works of artist and author of Art & Addiction, Ben Peabody. Dr. Louis LeFebvre at Main Street Dental Care in Gonzales, La. is participating in Freedom Day USA on October 11. This day is designed to honor and help our military by offering free dental services to current and retired military personnel, as well as their immediate family. In addition to offering our services we are asking businesses around our community to donate items (i.e. gift cards, items for raffles, food/drink to enjoy in office while waiting) to make this a great experience for the patients. Ascension Chapter Banquet

Coastal Conservation Association (CCA) Louisiana's Ascension Chapter Banquet presented by Bevel Tech Group, Relief Windows, EATEL, Shell, Cabela's, Hancock Whitney, and Rouses Markets will be held at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center on Thursday, September 20 at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $75 per person, $650 per table of 10, or $1250 per VIP table.
