Broken Chains Conference

The Broken Chains Conference 2018 will be held Friday and Saturday, July 20-21 at The Church in St. Amant. Friday it will begin at 7 p.m. and Saturday it will begin at 5:30 p.m. Admission is free. Speakers and entertainment include Mark Stermer, Cindy Stermer, Fitzpatrick Pitts, Josh Martin, Bobby Jackson, Yung Honore, and The church Vessel.

Southern Vintage Market Days

Hosted by French Garden Antiques, Vintage Garden Decor and Vintage Magasin ETC, Southern Vintage Market Days will be held at the Knights of Columbus Hall at 230 S. Irma in Gonzales. Over 60 local vendors will be featured inside and outside. Admission is free and the event is stroller friendly. It will be held Saturday July 21 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday July 22 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, the John Phillip Templet Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser will be held. $6 plate jambalaya will be served, prepared by Tee Wayne Cajun Cooking.

Trinity AME Church Family and Friends Fellowship Day

The Pastor, officers and members of Trinity AME church wish to invite you to worship with us during our annual Family and Friends Fellowship on Sunday, July 29 during our 9 o'clock worship service. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Let us come together to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. The special guest preacher for this occasion is the Rev. Dr. Michael E. Bell Sr., pastor of Allen Chapel AME Church in Washington, DC. Additionally, we are expecting several members of the Allen Chapel church family to travel down to Louisiana to mark this very special occasion with us. Our theme is “Better Together”, taken from Psalm 34:3. “Oh, magnify the Lord with me, and let us exalt his name together!” We look forward to your presence as we seek to offer praises to our God in the spirit of unity. Finally, keep us in prayer and pass the word as we seek to go higher in service to the Lord.

Garfish Rodeo

The 32nd annual Garfish Rodeo will be held at Manny's, Highway 22 in Maurepas. All proceeds are donated to LFACC and ST. Jude. The event will take place July 28-29. The cost: $75/boat to enter. Sign-up: July 28 at noon. "Big Gar" - $1,000; 2nd place - $500; 3rd - $250 Biggest Trash Fish (no sharks). Limit 10 Gar - 50 Jug Limit. Can only fish waters accessible to Blind River. Decoy Carving Heritage

Louisiana’s Decoy Carving Heritage: Past and Present’ will be presented by Gary Lipham on Saturday, July 21, 10 a.m. at the Bluebonnet Library. Lipham, a decoy carver, researcher and lecturer, will discuss the rich decoy carving heritage in Louisiana and the very diverse representation of decoy carvers with almost all groups represented in the mix. Uniquely each culture and the personality of the maker comes out in the now folk art of their carvings. Almost every culture represented in our state (Cajun, Slavic, Islenos, Creole, German) contributed to our rich wild-fowling heritage. The free program is open to the public. Kids Bike Race

Pelican State Credit Union is hosting its 15th Annual FREE Kids Bike Race on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Denham Springs. This completely free family event is open to the public, and all participants ages 12 and under are entered to win one of three parties for 10 at Area 51! The festivities will take place in the parking lot of Abundant Life Church at 206 Edgewood Drive in Denham Springs. Sign-in starts at 9 a.m., and the bike races begin at 10 a.m. There will be three races divided by age group: 5 and under, 6-9 and 10-12. All race participants will receive a medal of completion and a goody bag after being cheered on by their family members, friends and Petey the Pelican.

Dville Leadership Meeting

Greetings Leadership Team, due to the holiday week and a number of our members unable to attend, the Leadership Committee Meeting scheduled for Thursday, June 28, 2018 is being rescheduled to July 26, at City Hall beginning at 6 p.m. Please join us for a quick update meeting at City Hall at 6 p.m. on July 26. Repticon Coming Soon

Repticon reptile and exotic pet show, held at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales July 21-22, offers a unique family outing suitable for all ages and for a very diverse range of enthusiasts. The doors open to the general public at 10 a.m. on Saturday, closing at 5 p.m. On Sunday, the show hours are 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. At the door, tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children 5-12, and children under 5 are admitted free. Singletary-Courtney Reunion

The Singletary-Courtney Reunion will be held July 29, 2018 at Faithful United Methodist Church. 12 p.m. Lunch after church at 12. Everyone is invited.

Rivers n’ Bayou Poker Run

The Rivers n’ Bayou Poker Run will be held on Saturday, July 21. The run starts and ends at the NEW American Legion Location: Gautreau-Williams Post 81, 12042 W. Main Street, Gonzales. Everyone is welcome, all vehicles--Motorcycles, Jeeps, Buggies, Trucks & Autos. Registration for those on the Poker Run will be 9:30–11:00 am. An opening Ceremony will be held at 9:45 a.m. with all vehicles starting the run from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. All vehicles are to return no later than 5 p.m. Cost for the rider/driver is $20 Rider or $25 with Meal Ticket. Passengers are $15 each or $20 with Meal Ticket. There will be opportunities to purchase extra cards or hands. The community is invited to come out and and support our local veterans and community. You do not have ride in the Poker Run. We will have Pastalaya for sale at 12-1:30 p.m. and again at 4:30-6 p.m. Presale plates are $5.00 and will be $7.00 the day of the event. The band "Rival" will be playing 4-7 p.m. This is a free concert, no cover charge. A 50/50 raffle and silent auction will also be held during the day and all are welcome to participate. There will also be vendors on site if you are looking for a special gift. Proceeds will be used to support local veterans and our community. Western Governors University Grads

The following local residents have received their degree from Western Governors University (WGU). The online, nonprofit university held its 64th (Orlando, Florida); 65th (Seattle, Washington); and 66th (Las Vegas, Nevada) commencement ceremonies earlier this year to celebrate the recent graduation of more than 15,000 students from across the country. Stephon Glover of Prairieville received his Bachelor of Science in Business - Information Technology Management degree. Alicia Plumer of Prairieville received her Master of Science in Nursing - Leadership and Management (BSN to MSN) degree. Toni Dantonio of Prairieville received her Master of Science in Nursing - Leadership and Management (BSN to MSN) degree. Benjamin Baker of Prairieville received his Bachelor of Science in Business Management degree.
