Ask-a- Lawyer Sessions
Take advantage of Ask-a- Lawyer sessions, free and individual counseling sessions, to be held at the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales on Tuesday, May 22, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Attorneys will be available for one-on-one 15-minute sessions for legal advice on a first-come, first-served basis offered by the Pro Bono Project of the Baton Rouge Bar Association. Readers are Winners during Booklover’s Summer
Why let the kids have all the fun? Summer reading is not just for kids; get the whole family involved. This summer, Ascension Parish Library is introducing Beanstack, a new online software to help record and manage its summer reading programs at the library. Paper entry forms will still be available at all library locations. Join the adult summer reading program … Booklover’s Summer.
Beginning May 24, readers will sign up online at www.myapl.beanstack.org or stop by your local Ascension Parish Library for a Booklover’s Summer entry form. Readers will receive an Ascension Parish Library tote bag for reading or listening to three books. One tote bag per reader, while supplies last. Readers will also be eligible to win the Flavors of New Orleans Grand Prize featuring the Best Choice set of three Cast Iron Cookware including casserole/Dutch oven, gratin, and griddle pan. This oven to table cookware, crafted of porcelain enamel cast iron, will be a kitchen staple providing outstanding heat retention and distribution. This prize also includes a copy of the book, Kevin Belton’s Big Flavors of New Orleans by Kevin Belton and Rhonda Findley, and a sampling of some of New Orleans’ best flavors. Every time you read or listen to three additional books, you will earn another chance to win the grand prize. One grand prize will be awarded at each library location on August 3.

Summer Family Movie Morning: Moana
Kick off your summer with a family movie at the library! Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown will host a Summer Family Movie Morning showing of Moana on Saturday, May 26, at 10:00 a.m. Moana, from Walt Disney Animation Studios, is an animated feature film about an adventurous teenager who is inspired to leave the safety and security of her island on a daring journey to save her people. This film is rated PG - Parental Guidance is suggested and some material may not be suitable for children.

Summer Reading Kicks Off at Ascension Parish Library
Let’s make some noise! Readers of all ages will rock out this summer as Ascension Parish Library presents our “Libraries Rock” youth and teen summer reading programs. Join us as we explore music, geology, and more. We’ve got it all! Earn prizes for reading, and enjoy all of the great performers and programs at the library.
Children, from birth to 8th grade, who register for the Youth Summer Reading Program will receive a calendar, reading log, activity log, pencil and a Libraries Rock button. At 250 minutes read, each reader receives a Libraries Rock tote bag, a certificate of completion, and a bookmark. If you log 500 minutes of reading, you’ll receive bonus prizes which include a free bowling pass courtesy of Premier Lanes, a free meal from Chipotle, and a free movie pass from Malco Theatres. For every 250 minutes read the young reader also earns one chance at a Libraries Rock t-shirt. Drawings are held weekly at all four library locations. Finally, the reader who logs the most minutes by the end of the summer will receive a special prize for being our Outstanding Reader.
Teens, from 6th – 12th grade, can participate in our Teen Summer Reading Program. For every teen program you attend and every book you read, you’ll earn points and eventually badges. After you earn 500 points, you’ll receive a Library Rocks messenger bag, a free bowling pass courtesy of Premier Lanes, and a chance to spin our prize wheel! After that, read more books and attend additional teen programs to earn chances to win one of our end of the summer prize giveaways.
Registration for both our Youth and Teen Summer Reading programs begins Thursday, May 24. You can register in person at any library location or online at www.myapl.beanstack.org. Spring Storytime Concludes at Ascension Parish Library
Recently, Ascension Parish Library concluded its Spring Storytime Series. Ascension Parish Library hosts a variety of storytimes for children of all ages. These programs help foster early literacy skills needed by young children to successfully enter school.
